Professor François Degeorge

François Degeorge’s central research interest is the monitoring of performance – either inside the firm (say, by the board of directors) or outside the firm (say, by financial analysts).

Within this framework he has studied several topics, including earnings management by executives; the monitoring of firms by financial analysts; and conflicts of interest in stock offerings.

His research has been published in leading academic journals, such as the Journal of Business, the Journal of Finance, the Journal of Financial Economics and the Journal of Risk and Uncertainty, and featured in practioner-oriented publications such as the Harvard Business Review and Corporate Governance: An International Review.

He has received the SWX 2006 Best Paper Award, the 2000 Merton Miller Prize, the INQUIRE First Prize twice (1998 and 2003), the 1994 Fondation HEC Prize, and been nominated for the 1993 Smith Breeden Prize. Professor Degeorge is a former Fulbright and Arthur Sachs Scholar, and holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University and a Master’s degree from the HEC School of Management in Paris.
