In the twelfth public lecture of this series, Professor Jeffrey G. York, Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at Leeds School of Business, University of Colorado Boulder will deliver this lecture titled, "Environmental Entrepreneurship: From Idea to Adoption"

Key points of the lecture will include:

  • Entrepreneurship has often been proposed as a potential and overlooked approach to addressing global sustainability challenges. However, despite nearly two decades of research we lack a clear understanding of: 1) what is the process through which entrepreneurship can address climate change across multiple levels of analysis, 2) what, if any, is the actual impact of entrepreneurial entry on the causes of climate change or 3) how can initial successes at the founder and organizational level achieve widespread adoption and impact? Professor York will discuss these challenges and how our lack of clear models and evidence has impeded the efficacy of entrepreneurial solutions in addressing climate. Based on his and others’ research, he will present a frame work of how individuals, organizations, industries, and government can move towards a future of economic and ecological flourishing through entrepreneurial solutions.
  • Insights will include: 1) how can I as an individual business person move towards addressing climate change through creating new businesses, products, and services, 2) how can we collectively move beyond the false tradeoff between economic and ecological well being, and 3) what are the steps policy makers should consider to start the carbon-free transition.
  • Investors and practitioners will learn how they can take actionable steps across multiple levels to pro-actively address climate change. These will include moving from individual ideas and desire to create change all the way through policy implications for best enabling entrepreneurial solutions.

The lecture will be moderated by Alina Truhina, Founder & Managing Partner, UTOPIA Capital.

This is an online lecture held over Zoom.
