Professor Giacinta Cestone
Biography
Giacinta Cestone is Professor of Finance at Bayes Business School (formerly Cass). She holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Toulouse and has held research and teaching positions at the Institute for Economic Analysis in Barcelona, the University of Salerno, and Queen Mary, University of London. A Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy, at Bayes she has taught MSc, Executive MBA and PhD students, and supervised doctoral students in Finance. As PhD Director, between 2020 and 2025 she provided academic leadership and mentorship to a large cohort of PhD students.
Her research lies at the intersection of Corporate Finance, Corporate Governance, Organisation Economics, and Industrial Organisation. Her work has been published in leading international journals, including the Journal of Finance, the Journal of Financial Economics, the Review of Economic Studies, the Review of Finance.
Giacinta’s research examines how corporate financial structures interact with labour and product markets. Her work on internal capital and labour markets provides evidence that corporate groups can enjoy a competitive advantage over stand-alone firms through their ability to reallocate capital and labour internally. She has also made contributions to the literature on venture capital financing and to theoretical research on the relationship between corporate social responsibility and corporate governance.
She is currently a member of the Academic Advisory Panel of the Microeconomics Unit at the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), where she contributes academic expertise to policy-relevant analysis. She is also a Research Associate of the European Corporate Governance Institute (ECGI). Since 2025, she has served as Director of the Global Women Leadership Programme at Bayes Business School.
