Professor Konstantinos Stathopoulos
Biography
Konstantinos is a corporate governance scholar. He holds a Chair in Accounting and Finance at Alliance Manchester Business School and an Otto Moensted Visiting Professorship at Copenhagen Business School. He currently serves as the Vice President of the International Corporate Governance Society and Chair of the BAFA Corporate Governance Special Interest Group. During 2019-2024, he served as the Editor-in-Chief of Corporate Governance: An International Review, the leading academic journal for international corporate governance research.
Konstantinos has more than twenty years of experience conducting research across most areas of corporate governance, with a particular focus on executive compensation and how suboptimal governance practices may destroy stakeholder wealth. His recent focus is on the interests and impact of various stakeholders, such as employees, on firm decision making and governance.
He has an extensive publication record and his work has appeared in leading peer-reviewed academic journals, including the Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Management Science, Journal of Corporate Finance, Corporate Governance: An International Review, among others.
He has received several awards for his research from various organisations such as the American Law and Economics Association, British Accounting and Finance Association and Eastern Finance Association. He acts as an ad hoc reviewer for several academic journals, including Abacus; British Accounting Review; Journal of Banking and Finance; Journal of Corporate Finance; Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis; Management Science, as well as research organisations such as the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) UK, the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong, and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
He has presented his research at international conferences, academic institutions, and business organisations around the world. He has been a visiting researcher at several institutions including Drexel University, the University of Miami and the University of Texas at Austin.
