Biography
Thilo Kuntz is a Professor of Private law, Commercial and Corporate Law and Legal Theory at Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf ((HHU), Düsseldorf, Germany, and Managing Director of HHU's Institute for Corporate Law. He previously held chairs at Bremen University and Bucerius Law School, Germany. His research interests include fiduciary law, corporate finance and corporate governance, with an emphasis on comparative, economic and historical analysis. In his prize-winning Habilitationsschrift, completed in 2014, he analyzes freedom of contract in corporate law and venture-capital contracting, both in the US and Germany. He is the editor a Research Handbook on Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (Edward Elgar, forthcoming, 2023), a book on Transnational Fiduciary Law (with Seth Davies and Gregory Shaffer, Cambridge University Press, forthcoming 2023) and a book on Methodology in Private Law Theory (with Paul Miller, Oxford University Press, forthcoming, 2023). Thilo Kuntz was a visiting scholar at Stanford Law School in early 2010, after completing a doctorate in law on conflicts of interests in management buyouts in 2008. He obtained his LL.M. at the University of Chicago Law school in 2007, following his Second State Exam (bar exam equivalent) in 2006 and his First State Exam in Law at Justus-Liebig-University of Giessen in 2003.
