Dr Célian Hirsch
Biography
At the University of Lausanne, Célian Hirsch holds a joint position in commercial law at the Faculty of Law, Criminal Justice and Public Administration and at HEC Lausanne. He teaches courses in commercial law and business law, while continuing his research and developing research groups in corporate law in Switzerland and internationally.
Célian Hirsch holds degrees from the Universities of Fribourg, Zurich and Geneva, where he obtained his PhD in law (summa cum laude). After qualifying as an attorney-at-law, he worked as a doctoral assistant, senior research and teaching assistant, and then as a research affiliate at the Centre for Banking and Financial Law of the University of Geneva.
With the support of a grant from the Swiss National Science Foundation, Célian Hirsch completed postdoctoral research stays at the Georgetown University Law Center, Stanford Law School (Rock Center for Corporate Governance), and Goethe University Frankfurt (House of Finance). He has taught at the Geneva School of Economics and Management at the University of Geneva and at the Faculty of Law of the University of Fribourg.
Alongside his research and teaching activities, Célian Hirsch co-founded the platforms LawInside.ch , swissprivacy.law and SwissContract.Law. He is also a member of the Continuing Education Commission of the Geneva Bar Association and an academic member of the European Corporate Governance Institute and fellow of Stanford Law School’s Rock Center for Corporate Governance. In addition, he was selected by Le Temps as one of the 2020 “Forum des 100” personalities from French-speaking Switzerland, by L’Illustré as part of the “Generation of Tomorrow” in 2021, and by Bilan as a leading legal figure in French-speaking Switzerland in 2023. Finally, Célian Hirsch regularly speaks at conferences and practises as an attorney in Geneva.
