Generalist by conviction, not by accident.
The hardest problems facing boards and executive teams today, including AI, cyber resilience, digital transformation and geopolitical risk, do not yield to specialisation alone. They require judgment and the ability to hold technology, strategy, regulation and human behaviour in the same frame without flattening any of them.
There is a comfortable illusion circulating in boardrooms that adopting technology is, in itself, a strategy; that buying AI counts as transformation; and that having a framework counts as governance.
It does not.
The problem is rarely the technology itself. It is the ability to decide with clarity when complexity has outgrown the mental models executives were trained to use. Corporate Governance is not a technical layer or a compliance exercise. It is the invisible infrastructure that determines whether an organisation decides well or merely decides quickly.
I have worked at this intersection for more than two decades. As Founder of GOVaaS, I advise boards, CEOs and executive teams across Europe, Latin America and Africa, aligning strategy, technology, risk and accountability in a world where AI is quietly redrawing what it means to govern. My clients are not simply looking for compliance or another framework, they value someone who can sit at the table where decisions carry weight and raise the question that should have been asked three meetings earlier.
I am also the author of The Boardroom After AI and the creator of the Corporate Governance Gravity Model®, an original contribution to understanding how Corporate Governance can absorb AI, cybersecurity and digital risk without fragmenting accountability or turning directors into technology specialists.
I lecture at leading business schools in Portugal and internationally and design executive programmes on Governance, AI and Digital Leadership for boards and C-level audiences. Teaching, for me, is not a parallel activity. It is the discipline that keeps the thinking sharp enough to remain useful in the room.
I serve as President of the ISACA Lisbon Chapter and as a member of the General Council of IPCG, the Portuguese Institute of Corporate Governance. In 2019, ISACA recognised my global contribution to information governance with the John Kuyers Award.
