Online Book Launch and Dialogue with Leaders

Climate Finance

Thursday, 23 March 2023

17.00 – 18.20 CET

About the Event:

Climate change is no longer an abstract threat to deal with in the future. We are already feeling the devastating economic impacts around the world. Can financial tools help deal with the impact of climate change? Understanding the implications of climate change (and, more broadly, sustainability) for financial markets and the economy is nowadays a priority for board members, corporate executives, and investors.

The book:

In Climate Finance (2023), Professor Nuno Fernandes provides a comprehensive overview of the various facets of sustainability and climate-related financial issues. This book rigorously covers sustainable finance topics and climate-related frameworks, balancing investor and corporate needs. Additionally, this book:

•    Provides an in-depth understanding of the various aspects of climate finance, from the risks and opportunities to the demand and supply of capital to the impact of global policies.
•    Presents frameworks for readers to help them better understand the field and how finance and climate are linked.
•    Covers all the financing activities of companies, both through the debt side and the equity side, while addressing the financial market aspects of these activities (including climate finance instruments, sustainability-linked products, ESG investment, climate financing, institutional investors, ESG ratings, activist investors, etc.).
•    Allows reader to assess their contributions, risks, opportunities, and personal role in the coming transition
•    Helps investors and companies make more informed capital allocation decisions by appropriately incorporating all risks
•    Provides empirical evidence for the links between financial actions and climate-related risks and opportunities
•    Highlights relevant frameworks and evidence from markets, academic research, and practical case studies featuring leading companies and investors.

In addition to being a useful guide for finance leaders and practitioners, this book can also be used in business education (MBA, master’s, and executive education programs). It is based on many years of teaching and consulting with world-class corporations from all continents of the world.

In this launch event of the Climate Finance book, we will have a guest panel to discuss further the implications of climate change on financial markets and companies.

Guest speakers for the event:

Michel Demaré - Chairman-elect of the Board of Directors of AstraZeneca, non-executive director of Vodafone, and ex Vice-Chairman of the Board of UBS.

Cristina Casalinho - Managing director at Banco BPI responsible for Sustainability. Former CEO of the Portuguese Debt Management Office (IGCP).

Patrick Bolton - Professor of Business, Imperial College London and ECGI. Former president of the American Finance Association.
